Royal James Cafe

This interior of the Royal James Cafe is the painting where I finally "got" the concept that plein aire painters are trying to get. I have always been a studio painter, and over the last year, I have been dabbling (ie trying to figure it out!) in plein aire, but my plein aire still look like studio pieces. Arrgh.  I am getting closer to the translation, but still have a ways to go. The James is a great place for atmosphere, with many historical pieces and parts, pool tables and beer. I will be doing anouther interior there soon.
